About Me

Hello, my name is Helen Johnson

I’m a digital experience and brand leader with over 20 years of experience working across websites, user experience, design, content, and digital platforms. My background combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, grounded in UX, web development, and design.

Throughout my career, I’ve worked across agency, freelance, and in-house roles, leading and supporting complex digital initiatives for organisations in mining, construction, gambling, health, professional services, and creative industries. My work focuses on building clear, accessible, and well-structured digital experiences that support both users and business objectives.

I’m experienced across the full lifecycle of digital platforms, from early planning and UX strategy through to design systems, content structure, development, and ongoing optimisation. While my foundations are in UX and web delivery, my current focus is on overseeing digital experience and brand consistency at a broader, organisational level.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design from QUT and continue to develop my skills through ongoing study and professional learning. Staying current with evolving standards, tools, and best practices is an important part of how I work.

Digital Experience Strategy

I work across the planning and structure of digital platforms to ensure experiences are clear, usable, and scalable. This includes shaping information architecture, user journeys, content structure, and overall digital direction to support both user needs and business objectives.

My approach is grounded in UX thinking, accessibility, and long-term maintainability, rather than short-term solutions.

UX, Design & Brand Systems

My background is in UX and interface design, with a strong focus on clarity, consistency, and usability. I design and oversee digital interfaces and design systems that align with brand guidelines while remaining practical for real-world implementation.

This includes UI design, visual systems, accessibility considerations, and ensuring brand consistency across digital and non-digital touchpoints.

Web Platforms & Technical Foundations

I have extensive experience designing, building, and managing WordPress-based platforms and custom digital solutions. While I remain hands-on where needed, my current focus is on ensuring platforms are well-structured, accessible, secure, and fit for purpose.

This includes CMS architecture, content models, performance considerations, accessibility standards, and ongoing platform health.

Content, Messaging & Brand Voice

I work closely with content and marketing teams to support clear, consistent messaging across websites and digital platforms. This includes UX writing, copy refinement, content hierarchy, and maintaining a consistent brand voice across channels.

My focus is on making complex information easier to understand while ensuring content reflects the organisation’s values, tone, and positioning.

Ongoing Optimisation & Collaboration

Digital work doesn’t stop at launch. I support continuous improvement through reviewing performance insights, identifying usability issues, and refining digital experiences over time.

I collaborate with internal teams and external partners, providing guidance on digital experience, brand consistency, and design quality, while helping prioritise work and maintain a clear overall direction.
